![]() Sharing with a free account user (I intend to have premium)Īfter reviewing what others are searching for and a bit of my own comparisons, my list to compare against is:.Compatibility: windows, mac, ios, android, chrome, firefox, edge. The features I really would like to keep that LastPass offers are: There are some features that I wish DashLane would have like tags/folders but to me that's not a showstopper. DashLane performed as expected in my tests. It likely has to do with when these apps recognize a password change or recognize a password field. When things are going smoothy, 1Password and Bitwarden work just fine but any deviation is a fail. Bitwarden was the same - when I was updating the password on my selected test sites (these are publicly available, very commonly used websites) using the generated password, Bitwarden didn't prompt to save the updated password. Yes I could go dig the information out and update manually but I'm evaluating for all my family members and that's just too much friction / issues for some to deal with. It's easy to get out of sync and in fact on several tests, 1Password did not save the updated password. 1Password show stopper has to do with handling of the generated password. My tests include using the random password generator and how each site handles updating the password for the account. If you don't know what that means, probably safer to trust one of the two above cloud managed password managers, but if you are highly technical it's a good option that people have been using for decades. Bitwarden being open source means they really can't hide anything if they try, you just have to hope the good guys find any vulnerabilities before the bad guys do in that case).Īnd, if you are "done" with the cloud, KeepassXC is a good local alternative, but you risk losing your data so make sure you have a good backup strategy if you go that route. ![]() ![]() Both are third party audited, both publish the results of those third party audits (unlike LP), and at least in the public eye most APPEAR to put security first (I say that because it COULD be clever marketing in 1P's case, but they have several security engineers that are allowed to post publicly. If you don't trust yourself to make a super strong Master Password, the Secret Key would mitigate any concerns you may have.īut, if you think you can create a super strong MP (you probably can) then Bitwarden is another fine option. IMO, 1password is slightly more secure because of their implementation of a "Secret Key".
